Gratitude and the practice of Reiki
The expression of gratitude as a beneficial or spiritual practice forms part of Reiki through The Reiki Precepts, taught by Mikao Usui, founder of Reiki. Everyone who has learned Reiki will have, or should have, seen the Reiki precepts – Mikao Usui’s ‘rules to live by’ – and they are available in a variety of different forms in different lineages.
One of the precepts is "be humble" and this is often expressed as "be grateful for the many blessings in your life" which is an aspect of humility, so the expression of or feeling or gratitude, the focusing of attention on or noticing the many blessings that you have in your life, is an essential part of Reiki practice.
This journal is designed for you to work with the "Three Good Things", or "three blessings" or "three gifts", for 21 days.
At the end of each day, you write down three good things that happened that day. It can be anything at all that seems positive to you. It need not be anything big or important.
For example, you might recall the fact that you enjoyed the porridge you had for breakfast, noticed how pretty some flowers looked, or you might also recall that your child took its first step today. Anything from the most mundane to the most exalted works, as long as it seems to you like a good, positive, happy thing.
In this journal, you will also find a series of prompts or questions for you to think about, and then you write your answers or thoughts or ideas, insights and conclusions in the spaces provided. There are no 'right' answers, only your answers. This is your life. This is your individual journey.
You will be focusing the good things that you noticed, and the reasons why they took place. You will find new prompts for each day, helping you to direct your attention towards different aspects of your life, and we also suggest some tasks or activities that you can engage in.
This will be a transformative experience for you.
