Sitting at my disorganized desk with a clutter of folders and packing material underneath, I suddenly realized I could not take it another minute. I swooped it all into the center of the floor and began to go through it piece by piece. Keeping only those items that made for a joyful office, I pitched or recycled the rest. How nice to sit here now—what a peaceful feeling.
Marie Kondo, a Japanese cleaning consultant wrote the book: The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up. To experience the magic of tidying up is to experience the effect it has on your world and the transformation of your life for the better. Kondo promises, if done properly, her method will solve clutter problems forever!! Imagine that?
Organizing is done by category: clothes, books, etc. All the things in each category are gathered on the living room floor. I mean ALL—if an item is left out, it is discarded because it is not important to you. Touch each item, and if it brings you joy, keep it. Clothes are folded in Kondo's patented way and shelves and drawers are efficiently designed. One client threw away 200 45-liter garbage bags in one session. Marie has no repeat customers and her waiting list is very long. This is a new way of thinking and a new approach to everyday life. Things you enjoy will surround you and doors will open for new opportunities. Tidying up success depends upon a clear mindset and dedication to the KonMarie Method.
