Connection is a life experience that comes from taking the risk to be vulnerable. Through vulnerability one measures courage and lives in truth. This can bring discomfort, yet leads to a life in joy, and gratitude. There are no guarantees in life, so one must take a leap of faith and focus on loving with a whole heart.
An article in the Oxford Eagle, January 3, 2014, entitled “Mom Donates Kidney to Save Stranger’s Life” reported that a SC mother of two, suffering with end-stage kidney failure, desperately needed a kidney transplant to save her life. She had had childhood cancer, aortic by-pass surgery and was living on ¾ of a kidney. Over 150 people tested to see if they could donate a kidney. In early 2013, a young mother did match and she donated her healthy kidney so another mother could live. It took courage, compassion, connection and vulnerability on her part to make this selfless act toward a stranger. This mother took a risk and the uncertainty of the outcome showed a great measure of her courage and vulnerability.
Coaching questions:
- Would you be willing to donate your healthy organ so someone else could live?
- Do you love with your whole heart?
- Will you embrace vulnerability?
