June 5, 2013Passionate Racecar DriverWhile watching the Indy 500 and the NSCAR Coca Cola 600 on Memorial Day weekend, I was fascinated with the racing career of Danica Patrick, who was involved in a crash in the 600, (she is OK). She started in the 24 slot and finished in 29th in a field of 43. Danica is a beautiful, petite woman who has driven up to 196.434 miles per hour on the racetrack!!! Danica Patrick's passionate drive to win the Indy 500 began when she was just 10 years old. She dreamed about racing and about being chased by animals and people – now she has used those childhood dreams and nightmares to fuel her ambition in real life. Her adventure seeking family raced Go Karts and she loved to go fast. In England, Bobby Rahal asked her to join his Ford team. Rahal describes Danica as committed, talented, disciplined, and determined. He knows that her "do-whatever-it-takes" and "go-wherever-she-needs-to" attitude will help her to be the champion she really wants to be. Danica raced in Motegi, Japan in 2005, starting 2nd and finishing 4th. She said it was her first chance to show the boys what she was made of, and it is not sugar and spice. Nope. Not this girl! She is the first woman ever to win a "Sprint Cup Series" pole, which means she got the #1 starting position and the #1 pit stall. Danica's passion lights her way on the racetrack as she makes important choices while living in the fast lane! Resources: Coaching Questions:
