February 5, 2013InspirationConner Long, 9 years old, and his brother, Cayden, 7 years old, actively participate in kid’s triathlons up and down the East Coast. Working together for 14 races, they have great determination and fun. They are the Sports Illustrated Kid SportKids of 2012. Cayden was diagnosed at four months old with hypertonic cerebral palsy and cannot walk or talk on his own, so participating in sports together for the brothers was not an option. Conner spotted an advertisement for a kid's triathlon in Nashville, TN. His idea was for him and Cayden to participate together. Wanting to say yes to her son's request, Conner's Mother contacted race officials and a coach to put together the pieces for Conner to race with Cayden by his side. Each successive race finds both boys in a state of great anticipation. Conner knows that Cayden is happy because he giggles and is excited throughout the race. He does not have to go his way alone. The coach for the Long brothers is there beside them as Conner takes the steps necessary to realize his dream. He does the preparation to bike, swim and run, all the time pulling or pushing his brother. The determination of this nine-year-old boy will inspire people all over the world to recognize that children with special needs feel love and joy while they experience life. Let's root for "Team Long Brothers."
