September 5, 2012Defining MomentsOne defining moment for me came many years ago when I was scheduled to go to a class at the American Airlines Fight Attendant Academy. Two weeks before that date, my Dad passed away leaving my 89 year old Mom alone. I was in the midst of divorce proceedings from a long-term marriage and decided it was my place to care for my Mother. My brother realized the opportunity I had for a life of my own with a job that suited me perfectly. He stated clearly and firmly, "You have been in a cocoon too long and this is your time to be the beautiful butterfly that you are." He offered to be responsible for my Mother and to manage my Dad’s 59 apartments until I was able to help. At that moment, my life was re-defined. Being a flight attendant brought adventure and travel into my life and provided me with an opportunity to live near my family. I loved being with my Mom often and soon took over the apartment management. My brother is my champion. I did shine brightly in that job and I was free as a butterfly. Coaching Questions:
