August 5, 20121 - 2 - 3 - GO!Summertime My quest for the last few weeks has been to clear the pantry of out-of-date food and unused items. Why is it that when at the grocery store, I veer from my list and pick up many "maybe I will need" items? Forgetting if I have a specific spice or ingredient for a recipe, I buy another. (Oh yes, I have purged my spice rack also.) With this habit, my pantry fills up with an excess of what I need and oftentimes items will spoil or expire before being used. I have decided that the grocery store is close enough that I can buy only what I need and go back if necessary. If one will do, don’t buy two. Next, I attacked the freezer. Oh my, I had frozen leftovers to enjoy at a later date and guess what – I forgot they were in there. So, many of the frozen items had lost their table appeal. Now I will get a mystery package out and have it for dinner -- or not! My reward is that I have done this! I will be shopping for fresh foods from now on and plan to use them quickly. Remember, the perimeter of the grocery store has fresh and perishable foods; the inside aisles have the preserved foods. Buy consciously. Coaching Questions:
