June 5, 2012A Sugar WorldSarah Kay is a master of spoken word poetry and this quote is part of her performance entitled, "If I should have a daughter…" It received two standing ovations at TED 2011. Spoken Word Poetry is a medium whereby the poet writes a piece to be performed for an audience. It is aggressive and expresses a social commentary using vivid imagery that helps the listener to see, smell and taste what is being said. Sarah had such a passion for spoken word poetry that, at 14 years old, she convinced her parents to take her to the famous Bowery Poetry Club in Manhattan. Here she perfected her poetry and performed with the best. In 2004, she and Phil Kaye co-founded, "Project V.O.I.C.E." (Vocal Outreach into Creative Expression). They tour the world inspiring people, mostly youth, to understand themselves and their culture by using a personal experience to write and speak poetry. You, too, can acknowledge your passion, struggle with it, perfect it and act upon it, see the value of it and relish in the accomplishment of it. Coaching Questions:
