Our August 2013 Newsletter Cameron
Lake Fishing Lodges, Inc. |
Welcome Fishing
Friends! This has been an unusual year on Cameron Lake. The water level in May was at its usual high-water mark. The water began its usual decline in June. And then just went right back up as it rained and rained. For those of you who know Cameron Lake well, would you be surprised to hear the big rock in front of camp is still under water!? Yup, it is. The fish have been a little fussy. With all that water we've had the most success this year in the river. Nonetheless, everyone has managed to find fish each week and we're still getting it done at the fish-cleaning shack. We've still got openings. Come on up and ... ... line 'em
up!
Please send
me your 2012 and 2013 photos. deb@cameronlakefishinglodges.com

Getting To Cameron Lake Our arrival day is Saturday and departure is on Friday to accommodate the Algoma Central Railway Schedule. Most of our customers take the Algoma Central Passenger Train (ACR) from Hawk Junction. The train leaves Hawk at 3:20 on Saturday. There is no need to make reservations before your trip. You can buy your tickets when you arrive at the station in Hawk Junction. And be sure to arrive early enough to enjoy a burger at the Big Bear Bar and Grill right across from the train station. You can also catch the Algoma Central Passenger Train or the Agawa Canyon Tour Train in Sault Ste Marie. Call 1-800-242-9287. Arrangements can be made for you to take the Agawa Tour Train, explore the beautiful Agawa Canyon, and then pick up the passenger train north for the rest of your trip. You can learn more about the Agawa Canyon Tour Train here. If you prefer to drive to Oba via Hearst Ontario, you are welcome to leave your vehicle at our boat launch on the river. We ask that you make prior arrangements with us. This may require an overnight stay in the town of Hearst. On the Hearst website, click on Visitors and then Accommodations. Once you are in Oba, whether by train or your vehicle, we will lead you on a 14-mile, one-hour river trip to Cameron Lake Fishing Lodges and get you and your gear to your cabin. |

Updates at Camp We have three new 16 foot boats. Made in Temagami, Ontario, these 16 foot Naden Big Fish boats are made especially for the needs of Northern Ontario fishing and will definitely be a pleasure to operate on Cameron Lake! John's Cabin has a new refrigerator and a new bathroom sink. We have a few new fishfinders. We've added two new picnic tables and one new grill. We've got a dock at the main camp. And we're planning on two more new boats for 2014 Thanks to everyone who has made suggestions for improvements at camp. We'll sort through your wish list and have more updates for you in the Spring. Look! An dock at the main camp. Note: This photo was taken this week... August. Plenty of water, eh? |
