TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS OF THE MORTGAGE INDUSTRY
Well, Countrywide Mortgage is at it again. If you listened to my
November 23rd broadcast on WYLD in New Orleans, you heard me talk about
the nightmare of my mortgage being sold to Countrywide.
(TO HEAR THE BROADCAST, GO TO WWW.WYLDFM.COM Blogs for Sunday
Journal).
I always tell my audience to pay the January mortgage payment before
December 31st in order to have an extra month of interest to file on
your income tax return. Well, Countrywide has sent me my Form 1098
already. (The IRS form which states the amount of interest paid on your
mortgage.)
This form should be mailed to you in January so that it includes all
payments made through the end of the year. My battle starts again to
make sure that a "second" 1098 is mailed to me in January that includes
my December interest. If you pay your January payment in December,
check your 1098 to make sure the interest amount is correct.
The mortgage industry is in such a mess, so make sure you "triple"
check everything they send you. If possible, manage you account online
to catch mistakes faster.
