A BIG, BIG HIP-HIP-HOORAY FOR NEW YORK!
The New York State Senate recently sent a bill to be signed into law by
the governor, which would ban the "universal default clause" from being
imposed on credit card holders, in New York State.
If you recall, the universal default clause, in your credit card
agreement, gives the creditor the right to automatically increase your
interest, if you are late paying "another" creditor.
If the bill is signed into law, I'm sure other states will follow suit.
You can help get the ball rolling, in your state, by faxing, calling,
writing, and/or emailing your State Representatives.
While you have their attention, please let them know how you feel about
how your personal information is being used (more info in my next news
bulletin).
THE HIGH COST OF GASOLINE
According to the BIGresearch Consumer Intentions and Action Survey,
consumers have become less conservative with their finances, over the
past 90 days. IN MAY, 36.2% HAVE MADE PAYING DOWN DEBT, A FINANCIAL
PRIORITY (and you should, too).
Drivers are scrimping and saving in order to fuel their vehicles. More
than two in five are simply taking fewer shopping trips, 37.8% are
buying closer to home, one-third are on the prowl for sales and
specials (both local and on the Internet), while close to one-quarter
are clipping coupons or opting for store brands/generics.
While the federal government says the economy is "fine", consumers are
showing them differently, by NOT spending.
