A few months ago, I was invited to play duplicate bridge – my first experience playing duplicate. With great anxiety, I showed up at the appropriate time and was welcomed by the other players. They gave me gentle, helpful hints during the afternoon of bridge playing. The interesting part about duplicate bridge is that the exact hand is played twice. The bids and the scores are compared after the second round. Having been dealt the same hand, a player can play the cards differently. So, in duplicate, ”We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand.”
A bridge player is advised to assess the hand, count the winning tricks, and then play to reach the bid. With that in mind, let us consider the cards you have been dealt in the game of life. There are family cards, occupation cards, money cards, and college cards, to name a few. Life takes you on a journey as you play your cards: the choice card, the decision card, the location card, the important people card and more. Assess the cards you have received so you can begin to play the geme of life while keeping your goals in mind.
Coaching questions:
- In the game of life, are you ready to play your hand?
- Does your hand require you to get up and take action?
- In bridge, honor cards are valuable. When will you count your valuable cards?
- Are you grateful for the life cards you are holding?
Look at your hand, make a plan, and set an intention to take action. Call me.
