Greetings to All of Our Friends
in the Glass World!
*please note: Our webmaster included some incorrect information about how to find us at the end of the newsletter when we sent it a couple of days ago. That information gave instructions about how to get to Hot Glass Houston, not to our studio. Google maps works just fine when you use our address as provided at the end of this newsletter. Please pardon our mistake!
I really can't believe that we're already heading into summer...where did the spring go? Well, for us it has been spent trying to finish a massive mural with kiln problems :( that keep cropping up, and classes...lots of classes! Again, we've had students from both in Texas and out of state, and that is wonderful. People are hearing about us. We have had inquiries from Delphi, Weisser, and Fusion Headquarters, and may be announcing classes for those of you in those areas in the near future. Yea!
Of course, Hot Glass Houston is still really hot. We taught 2 classes in the Winter Aspens because of the demand in April and March, and our next class will be a 3-day class in July for a beautiful Asian-influenced bird and flower panel. Sept. brings a 4-day class in how to make the egret panels that we have been producing lately, and in Nov. Bob is scheduling 2 really fun Christmas weekends where we'll make a beautiful assortmen of ornaments, gifts, and maybe even a mobile! Next.....well we're already talking about a anutum woods scene in Jan. or Feb. We do love Bob Paterson. www.hotglasshouston.com.
On the home front, we are out of town with family off and on until the later part of June. But we have planned three very special classes for our studio.
No Faux Here Weave Class
Aug. 6, 7, 13, 14th that's 2 weekends...4days
Want to learn how to make those beautiful weaves that you've seen in galleries for hundreds of dollars? Well, John and I won second place at the San Antonio Fine Arts Festival last year with our love weave, The Fabric of Society. Each student will learn how to cut those 1/4" strips, slump, and weave a lovely bowl. We'll also make a one-of-a-kind mold for slumping the weave so that it really looks like woven fabric! It is time consuming, and because we know that some people work slower than others we have scheduled it for 4 days which we expect most students will need. The cost for the class and all materials is $680. Only 6 students per class so call early if you are interested.
Historical Texas Flags
Aug. 27 and 28
John is a docent at the Sam Houston Museum here in Huntsville, and created a whole series of Texas flags that are absolutely fabulous! His work is wonderful, and having been a teacher and historian by profession, he is also a great glass teacher. He will teach each student how to make a beautiful flag, approx. 11" x 17", from cutting to slumping. He also has made beautiful frames that hang or stand alone for those that are not slumped that I am sure he would be happy to share with everyone. The cost for the class and all supplies is $375. Only 4 spaces available so hurry!
Autumn Woods Landscape
There are 2 options for dates. Let me know what works best for you, and we'll go from there.
Oct. 8, 9, 15, 16th...4 days, 2 weekends.
Oct. 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 5 days, which gives us an additional day for the kiln to fire the large pieces...same price
Let's make a lovely autumn woods panel w/lots of dimension, frit, stringer, and cut glass! It is highly suggested that you be experienced in glass and/or have had some painting background. Call me if you are not sure whether this class is too advanced, and we will discuss it. The panel is very similar to those that are on the website. It is a lovely project with much depth and detail, and one of our most requested classes. There will only be 5 spots available due to the size of the pieces, and the cost is $750.
Please take some time, and read the testimonies from our students on the website, dancinglightfusedglass.com. We really work to give you the best classes available. :)
Thanks to all of our friends for spreading the word about our work and classes. We couldn't do this without all of you. John and I have had a wonderful 3 years with some of the best students and people on the planet.
